What some of our lovely patients have said about us...
We strive to provide a caring service which is world-class and unique...
Taking care of your smile has never been easier. Whether you're looking for an emergency appointment, routine care, cosmetic improvements or expert advice and provision of more complex treatments, The Elms Dental Practice is able to help you at each step.
Our aim is to prevent our patients from developing tooth and gum related problems. If problems do arise, we identify them at the early stages so that treatments are easier, quicker and cheaper with optimal success rates.
Our knowledgeable, skilled and experienced clinicians will actively include you in the treatment planning process and will guide you towards the end goals of comfort, good health, optimal biting function and a great smile!
Examinations and emergency appointments with a thorough and detailed inspection of the teeth, gums and mouth. X-rays and clinical photographs may also be needed as part of diagnosis and monitoring. All examinations include cancer-screening. Once pain and infection have been successfully treated, function and appearance can then be improved with complimentary consultations for full-mouth rehabilitation and smile makeover.
Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss. We are here to stop this trend with effective non-surgical and surgical cleaning treatment options, including a localised antibiotic regime, bone-grafting and pocket reduction.
Teeth can fracture, wear down, become decayed, need an old restoration replaced or just look unsightly. Get a beautiful cosmetic white filling which blends in with your natural tooth surface, giving you comfort, chewing function and a great smile. We also provide minimally-invasive treatments, such as composite bonding (an alternative to veneers) and ICON infiltration (for the treatment of enamel patchiness and early decay).
Necrotic pulps and abscesses can cause some of the worst pain a person can experience. We get rid of this pain and infection with root canal treatment. We also provide pulpectomy for baby teeth and pulpotomy for adult teeth which are not yet fully formed.
Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved, or is not functional and causing problems and risks to neighbouring functional teeth. These can be removed without pain. We also provide surgical extractions for more problematic teeth and coronectomy for those very close to a nerve bundle or deep into a sinus.
There are times when you need something stronger and more aesthetic than a filling or a fixed option alternative to implant to replace a missing tooth. Veneers, crowns and bridges made with ceramic may just be what you are looking for to improve the appearance of your smile, strength of your teeth or function of your bite.
Multiple missing teeth are cost-effectively replaced with dentures, including acrylic, flexible and metal varieties. The transformation in appearance and improvement in chewing function can be extraordinary.
A low gumline, soft tissue growths/lesions, malformed teeth and bulbous bone can detract from an otherwise beautiful smile. We can contour the soft and hard tissue to remove problems, restore comfort and regain confidence.
Bone loss occurs due to periodontal disease, following a tooth extraction or as a result of a persistent tooth granuloma/cyst. Bone-grafting restores and maintains as much of this bone as possible, improving the strength of the jaw and its ability to support dentures and implants. We also provide periodontal surgery, curettage, enucleation, apicectomy and sinus lifts. Our specialist periodontist provides implant and sinus lift treatments.
Trauma to the teeth and dysfunction of the jaw-joints can cause serious problems which can be prevented, managed or relieved with splints, mouthguards and Michigan/Tanner appliances. We also provide anti-snoring devices.
Teeth can often be crowded, tilted or spaced. This can be corrected by realigning the position of the teeth with clear aligners or traditional braces. We also provide frenectomies and surgical exposures as needed. Our specialist orthodontist provides braces and complex clear aligner treatments.
Teeth can sometimes not look as white as you may want. Enamel can be effectively whitened without the need for injection or drilling with tooth whitening. We also provide internal bleaching of root treated teeth.
Our gentle and experienced clinicians will ensure procedures are done without any pain. For invasive procedures, an anaesthetic can be given to numb the area. For very scared or phobic patients, we also off intra-venous sedation. Our specialist medical anaesthetist provides sedation services.

We endeavour to see all emergencies the same day, if not the next working day. If you feel your condition is very serious, suffer trauma which involves a bone fracture, or develop a swelling which extends up to your eye or restricts your breathing, swallowing or mouth opening, please go to the A&E department of a hospital immediately.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to write it down so that you can fully discuss with your Maldon Dentist at the start of your appointment. Please do not leave your questions or concerns till the end as you are leaving.
Please keep a list of your medications on you at all times in case of emergency. This will also be useful at your dental examinations when we can update your medical health questionnaire. If there are any changes to your medications please inform the dentist.
Appointments at The Elms Dental Practice will not require you to change any regular medications prescribed by your general medical practitioner or hospital doctor, unless otherwise agreed prior to your appointment.
If you have any medications for emergency situations (asthma inhaler, GTN spray, midazolam gel, glucose tablets, glucagon kit, emergency steroid injection kit or EpiPen)...it is advisable to carry these with you at all times.
Please eat well before your dental appointment, especially if you are diabetic, scared, phobic or having a big procedure such as a tooth extraction or surgery. This will help to keep your blood sugar levels up during your visit and when eating straight after an appointment may be more difficult.
If you have any removable appliance, please bring these with you for your appointments. This will allow the dentist to review the appliance and, if you are having treatment, that any new restoration does not interfere with the fit or bite on the appliance.
If there is any issue with communication, please attend with a friend, relative or carer to help you understand and respond to discussions.
If you are attending for treatment under IV sedation, please ensure you have a friend or family member who can drive you to the practice and drive you straight back home afterwards and is able to look after you for the rest of the day.

If you have a cold-sore, please cover with a cold-sore patch for your appointment.
Please avoid attending the dental practice if in the last 6 months you have had hepatitis, organ transplant, joint replacement, surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy...unless due to emergency for pain, swelling or discharge.
Please avoid attending the dental practice if in the last 1 month you have had tuberculosis, pneumonia, MRSA, chicken-pox or shingles...unless due to emergency for pain, swelling or discharge.
If you have a severe and persistent cough or sneeze (especially with a fever or rash), vomiting or diarrhoea, please reschedule your appointment, giving at least 24 hours notice, and seek the advice of a medical doctor.
